Today, some of the old-fashioned shrubs grown
and loved by our grandmothers are now back in fashion – and for good reason. Most of these selections have few or no pests, grow fast
and get quite large, filling up empty garden spaces quickly.
-Forsythia
-Mock Orange
-Deutzia
-Lilac-Rose
-Weigela
Do you remember what
was growing in your Grandmother's garden?
We'd love to know!

Those were my grandmother's prized roses. She had them lining the entire driveway. They were so beautiful. In her yard she had many, many apple trees too!
Great Pictures Leslie. My great grandmother who lived right on the water in Waretown, NJ had her entire fence lined with grape vines for years! I remember picking them when I was really little, eating them and having to discard of all the seeds that were in them
My Oma had all kinds of everything in her garden, but what I remember the most was the green beans!!! So so so many green beans all summer.
My grandmother had blocks of gardens! We came home from school and had to change and pick bushels and bushels of peppers, beans, & tomatoes. At times there were 50 bushels of everything. It was like playing twister, walking in between the tomatoes! We'd load them into a pickup truck that my mother drove and deliver them to local neighbors who would can and make sauce. Fig trees and rhubarb, asparagus were their other favorites! So many memories!
Fun pictures!
I have some OLD photographs of my Great-Grandmother's garden - all hollyhocks and roses. These were in black and white of course - I'd love to know what colors they were!
