For the Love of Gardening

Why do you garden and what have you learned thru gardening?  What was the reason you decided to sow your first seed, plant you first perennial? Was it because you were following a tradition, living out a childhood memory?  What is the "neatest" old gardening secret you know? Or, was passed down thru your family.. Or, maybe you just stumbled into?

"Gardening is best when our knowledge is shared"
Take a moment here and let us know..

When I was a young child I would follow my mother around in the garden holding the basket for her to fill with fresh flowers and the best fresh vegetables ever! Through the years I've learned that patience is a virtue when gardening and it's a trial and error process. My best advice to any gardener is adding compost to any garden!

Fish emulsion around your roses does wonders. I've been using it for years with success.
BTW, do you know how to get rid of Stinkbugs?

Probably one of my favorite gardening moments was around 15 years ago when I was planting boxes in the front of the house with spring pansies. My daughter who was around four at the time was right behind me working hard.I turned around after making my way down the line to find she had unplanted everything. She had a big smile on her face( she thought job well done) and her new gloves next to her(she said she didn't want to get them diry) How could I be upset!! Julie S

Best gardening tool...a masons pointing trowel.

We have a holiday tradition of planting bulbs on Thanksgiving still 15 years later

Hello. My favorite gardening memory is walking through my mothers rose garden. She took such pride in the many varieties of roses she nurtured in her garden. I remember looking at her just walking and smelling each and every flower and thinking how silly she looked. It wasn't until I began gardening myself that I realized why her passion was so fulfilling. As you can see my mother loved roses so much she named me Rose. This past year my mother passed away so I will be visiting your nursery to see about buying a rose in her honor. Thank you for the opportunity to relive a special memory for me.

In our fast paced high-tech world gardening keeps me connected to what’s real. I enjoy the experience of the natural world through all of my senses. The colorful beauty of bud to bloom, the rustle of wind in the trees mixed with bird song, the smell of fresh turned earth as it runs through my fingers, the taste of just picked vegetables and herbs. . . I am much more in tune with the pace of the natural world and being in it as often as possible keep me connected to myself as well.

I love gardening, I love to watch thing grow. I love eating the fruits of my labor. I love watching my kids gardening then watching their faces fill with pride and wonder as our plants grow and grow.

Hi I'm Penny and I have a website called PennysTomatoes.com. I love gardening I because...I grew up on a farm and was always outside riding my horses or weeding our garden. My mom couldn't keep me in the house for very long and I'm still the same today. I would rather be working in my garden and enjoying the outdoors than sitting inside. Once you've had a garden you know just how much better fresh vegetable can taste...you'll never buy them from the store again:)

I honestly feel gardening can bring you close to your family and friends. Doing it together, digging through the dirt and starting something that you know you made possible.

Gardening is what mother nature intended us to do, work the land, sow the seeds and reap the benefits.

I really enjoy the emotional benefits (as well as luscious organic fruits and veggies) you can get from gardening.

Two days before my June wedding my bestfriend and I planted 8 planters together for the church and party. I left 4 at the church as a donation and gave the others to family and friends that had helped me throughout the wedding planning. It was nice way to spend sometime with her since we both love to garden and met working as kids in a garden center.

I like planting lily bulbs because they're easy and give you a lot of color and are great for cuttting in the summer.
